Wrapped Blocks are a modern take on the Japanese art form of Rock wrapping. Andrea will demonstrate wrapping techniques inspired by Margo Selby’s use of color and geometric patterns in textiles, this time applied to wooden blocks. Participants will learn how to wrap and design their own vibrant block. These blocks are useful for project planning or as decorative pieces.

 

Materials List

Bring your thrums—almost any kind will do. When choosing what to bring, think about your color scheme and fiber weight. Select colors that produce an attractive display piece, and make sure the fiber is suitable for a 4.5-inch square block.

Andrea Adair has been a weaver in Harwinton, Connecticut, since 2020. Originally from Rochester, NY, she learned the craft from her grandmother, Nellie Sandberg, who brought Andrea’s barn loom from Sweden in 1958. Andrea studied art at RIT’s School for American Crafts, specializing in weaving and textile design. She creates rag rugs from recycled materials and works as an artisan at the Hartford Artisan Weaving Center, where she values collaborating and learning with others.
